Faith Enough to Act

Amen, I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. (Matthew 17:20)

If we focus on the mountain that didn't move, we'll take Jesus' words as a rebuke. But if we keep our attention on the mustard seed, we can step into a place where nothing is impossible, nothing is out of reach.

What does mustard seed sized faith look like? It is simply having faith enough to act. It is faith enough to open my mouth and speak a command to the mountain.

And what if the mountain doesn't move? The temptation is to return to the rebuke: I conclude that I just don't have enough faith and I give up.

The response of faith, on the other hand, refuses to give more weight to circumstances than to God's promises. Even if I'm carrying doubt or discouragement, even if my knees are trembling - if I have faith enough to act yet again then I've still got my mustard seed. And eventually, that mountain has to give way.

Faith is not believing without seeing, it's believing UNTIL I see.
